A leading Conservative county councillor has defended an investment of more than £20 million of public money into a tobacco company at the same time as the county council launches a Hertfordshire-wide anti-smoking campaign.
Last Tuesday the British contingent of Liberal Democrat Euro MPs joined with its allies in the European Parliament to approve the 2014-2020 EU Budget. They voted through a package which included funding for major infrastructure projects, as well as billions of pounds for apprenticeships and training to help tackle youth unemployment. At the same time the package represented a £30 billion overall budget reduction.
