A Resounding Win for Jubilant Berkhamsted Liberal Democrats as Tories Slink Away from Election Humiliation

On Thursday February 18th the Berkhamsted Liberal Democrats took a Town Council seat from the Tories with a 104 vote majority for candidate Gordon Yearwoodand a 15% increase in the Lib Dem vote share. The By Election was caused by the resignation of a Tory Town Councillor over his group's poor governance, inadequate financial oversight and failure to consult over controversial projects like the town's proposed multi-storey car park. The Liberal Democrats have been making steady progress in Berkhamsted for some time now as dissatisfaction with the Conservatives grows both locally and nationally. From two town councillors last year, the Lib Dems moved up to three in May and now have a four-strong team in Berkhamsted Civic Centre.
