Aldbury near Tring is a pretty village set in a bowl of the Chiltern Hills. With Ashridge to the east, Ivinghoe Beacon to the north and Pitstone Hill to the west, drainage could always be a problem, though the porous chalk usually drains well. Down at the bottom of the village, of course, with clay and and silt outwash it is a different matter.
Southern Railway has caused disruption to the travel arrangements, not only of regular commuters, but also of anyone who has been planning to use their services at week ends. Many a family outing has been spoiled by an unexpected cancellation of trains with no alternative arrangements being offered. Now passengers in Tring and Berkhamsted are finally getting confirmation that they will receive some recompense for the inconvenience and disruption to their lives caused by Southern's poor service

Dacorum Borough Council has a department that is optimistically called "Clean, Safe and Green". One of their responsibilities is to empty the Dog Dirt Bins and dispose of the excrement.
It seems like a very long time but this project really took less than three years. This is quite fast for a highway project! On the other hand since the Icknield Way has been there a number of millennia perhaps it wasn't so fast after all. Perhaps people used to complain then of the danger in crossing it because of the all the migrating mammoths?
