Cllr McArevey wins a top nursing award

Leverstock Green Councillor, Cllr Cathy McArevey qualified as a nurse in 2006 first working in intensive care and throughout her career has worked as part of the community nursing team, a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (health visitor), a forensic nurse examiner for abuse victims and more recently has a strategic role at the Integrated Care Board as a Designated Nurse for Safeguarding and she continues to work regular clinical shifts. She was awarded the title of Queen’s Nurse in 2022 and this prestigious award recognises the exceptional contribution she has made to the nursing profession.
Her work as a nurse, particularly during the Covid 19 pandemic, motivated her to get involved in politics and in 2023 this resulted in her election as councillor for Leverstock Green.
Cllr McArevey said: “I love to be in the community as a nurse. It is a privilege to work in people’s homes and I am fortunate enough to be able to do that for people of all ages, enabling me to truly understand what is needed in the community. Being a community nurse made me realise the importance of becoming involved in politics. I think it’s important to be able to bring my knowledge and skills to influence policy and represent residents.”
