Lib Dems winning over Hemel

May 1, 2010 4:04 PM

Richard Grayson meeting residents in Hemel Town CentreCommenting on the general election campaign, the Lib Dem candidate in Hemel Hempstead, Dr Richard Grayson, today said: "There has a tremendous response in Hemel throughout the campaign. We are winning over people who have previously always voted either Labour or Conservative, and we are also gaining many people who want to help our campaign.

"Our campaigning throughout the constituency had revealed a big swing to the Liberal Democrats, very much in line with national polls. When we have held a town centre stall, as we have done for the past three Saturdays, the level of enthusiasm has been amazing.

"It is becoming increasingly clear that in Hemel, as elsewhere, this really is a two horse race between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives. The Guardian's backing for the Liberal Democrats today was highly significant. People who want real change are now opting for the Lib Dems rather than either of the old parties. It is especially clear that progressive voters are deserting Labour in droves and coming over to us.

"We can win in Hemel on 6th May if people go with their best instincts and vote Liberal Democrats. My message to local voters is 'Go on, you know you want to'. Don't let the old parties and some newspapers put you off - they are only worried about losing power having kept it to themselves for decades. Hemel can get real change next Thursday by voting for the Liberal Democrats."
