Richard Grayson is calling for government action to help around 2000 people in Hemel Hempstead who have lost out on pensions provided through Equitable Life. In Parliament, the Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, Vince Cable MP, has repeatedly tackled the government.
Richard Grayson will be attending a meeting of the Equitable Members Action Group (www.emag.org.uk) in October.
Dr Grayson says: "Much of the mismanagement of Equitable Life happened during a Conservative government. However, the Parliamentary Ombudsman's investigation, which is now over, has taken over four years. There is little doubt that Labour's foot-dragging has made a substantial contribution to the repeated delays.
"Labour must now accept the Ombudsman's recommendation that 'wrongs should be remedied', admit fault and apologise to policyholders. It is critical that the government set out a credible, transparent and independent process to enter into a dialogue with policy-holders over compensation."
