Today (Tuesday 25th November 2008) Susan Gaszczak, Liberal Democrat campaigner, attended Hertfordshire County Council to ask a question of the Tory-run authority.

Susan asked: 'Does the cabinet member for education think it is acceptable that a parent moving to Watford with a Reception age child during the summer was made to phone every school in Watford to find only 2 schools with vacancies on the first day of term in September? Should the council not have better information about school places available by working in partnership with schools? Do they feel that the council has suitable control of school place planning?'

The cabinet member for education confirmed he had commissioned a review of the current system in order to identify possible improvements.

Susan commented after the meeting: 'I am pleased that the council is now going to do something about the admissions system as a result of lobbying by the Liberal Democrats - I only hope that the solution they find makes positive impact for families in Watford. I have offered to help with any review that council officials undertake.'
